DEADLINE EXTENDED: Friday, January 29, 2021 by 5:00pm ET.

The Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) is hosting its Annual Conference virtually from May 10-13, 2021. This year CNAM will be holding its 8th annual Student Research Symposium. The purpose of the symposium is to showcase asset management research projects in Canadian universities and provide a platform for communication, collaboration and networking among young researchers and practitioners in the field of asset management. The 2021 Conference theme is “REFOCUS: The Road Ahead”. Abstracts are being solicited that fall within one of the following topics:

  • AM 101
  • Organization and People
  • Long Term Sustainable Financial Planning
  • Climate Change—Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies
  • Operations and Maintenance—Infrastructure Development
  • French Language Content

To participate, students must submit an extended abstract which clearly states:

  • Motivation for their Work
  • Key Research Objectives
  • Methodology
  • Summary of Key Finding

A panel of judges will select the top three abstracts, and those students will be invited to present their work live during a conference session for cash prizes!

Prize for First Place = $500
Prize for Second Place = $200
Prize for Third Place = $200

Not to worry if you are not one of the top three! All qualifying abstracts outside of the top three will be invited to present their work in a poster-style format at the virtual exhibition area of the conference. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure for your work – don’t miss out!

Authors of all other qualifying abstract submissions will be invited to share their work in a poster presentation style format at the virtual exhibit hall of the conference.

Registration for the conference is provided for all Student Research Symposium participants (top three presenters as well as posters).

Judging will be based on the following categories:

  • Novelty – Is the research addressing a new problem? Is it proposing a novel solution to a known problem? Has this type of work been done before?
  • Practicality – Is the proposed approach practical to implement? Can it result in tangible improvements to the status quo?
  • Need – Is there need for this research? Is the problem that it is solving important to the asset management community?
  • Writing and Clarity – How well does the candidate communicate their area of research in writing? Is the text free of spelling and grammar mistakes?
